How will policies surrounding the future of the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program affect dental health access? That important question was the focus of a popular breakout session sponsored by Kool Smiles at the recent American Student Dental Association (ASDA) annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.
Andy Oreffice, Sr. Vice President of Benevis, Collin Reusch, Senior Policy Analyst at Children’s Dental Health Project and Joe Anne Hart, Director of Government Affairs for the Florida Dental Association served as panelist speakers. Student attendees left the session with a better understanding of how both federal and state dental policy is made and how decisions made in Washington, D.C. and state capitols throughout the country can affect a practice’s bottom line and patients’ ability to access affordable, quality dental care.
In a survey of breakout sessions, one ASDA attendee concluded, “I really enjoyed the Impact of Government Policy on Future Dental Access session because it gave me an idea of what issues I will need to fight for as a dental student and dentist.”
With over 100 students participating, this was one of the highest attendance counts for sponsored breakout sessions! Students showed high interest and engagement and described the session as “a very important topic.”
Kool Smiles also participated in the Vendor Fair during the annual meeting, and gave away a fitbit to one lucky dental student!
