Kool Smiles’ Bolivia Mission Trip Featured in the Northern Virginia Daily

Kool Smiles’ own Dr. Deborah Butler, a traveling dentist based in Winchester Virginia, recently spoke with the Northern Virginia Daily about her weeklong mission trip to Bolivia where she provided dental care to children living near a prison complex outside of Santa Cruz.

The trip was organized by Flying Doctors of America, a charity that connects doctors and dentists to children in need around the world. Butler, who has practiced dentistry for over 11 years, said the trip gave her a new perspective on life.

“Every smile counts,” she said, as she recalled how many of the children she encountered had never been to a dentist before. Her most memorable moment of the trip was when one little girl, who hadn’t said a word to anyone since her father was arrested the year before, came right up to her, laughing and giggling.

“That’s where our hearts are,” Dr. Butler added, “to increase access to care.” She says that in the future, she plans to make another mission trip so she can keep on bringing smiles to children in need
